Step one

Put it on the home screen.

Stratum Audit runs in the browser, so this is the whole installation. The two platforms genuinely differ here — Android can offer a button, and iPhone cannot — so they get their own instructions rather than a shared fudge.

iPhone & iPad

Safari

  1. Open app.stratumaudit.com in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button — the square with an arrow leaving the top of it.
  3. Scroll the sheet down, tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
  4. Open Stratum Audit from the new icon. No address bar, no tabs — it takes the whole screen.

It has to be Safari. Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Opera on an iPhone are all Safari underneath, but only Safari's own share sheet carries Add to Home Screen. In the others the item simply is not there.

Android

Chrome

  1. Open app.stratumaudit.com in Chrome.
  2. Stratum Audit offers to install itself in a bar near the bottom. Tap Install.
  3. No bar? Use the ⋮ menu and pick Install app or Add to Home screen.
  4. It lands in the app drawer and on the home screen like anything else installed.

Samsung Internet and Edge work too. Anything built on Chromium can install it; the wording of the menu item is the only thing that moves.

Step two

Sign in as whoever you actually are.

The app opens on a different screen depending on the seat. Three ways in, and only one of them involves creating anything.

You were invited

Your admin sent an invite. Sign in with that address and you arrive in the role they gave you — manager, inspector or viewer — with your sites and crews already there. Nothing to configure.

You are setting the company up

Create the account and you are the admin. Name the organization, add the first site, and invite the crew with the role each of them gets. Then hand them this page.

You are a contractor

Invite only, and the account stays yours. Enter the code from your invite, take the site's orientation, and check in when you get there — your training is on file before you start work.

Once it is on there

It stops behaving like a website.

An icon on the home screen is not cosmetic. Installed, the app keeps its own storage and its own shell, which is what makes the rest of this possible.

It works with no signal

The shell is cached on the device. Photos, readings and signatures are written locally and queued, with the pending count on screen until it reads zero.

The camera is the input

Capture attaches to the item you are on as you shoot, so nothing depends on filing it later. Permission is asked at the moment it is needed, not up front.

It updates itself

New versions arrive the next time the phone has a connection. Nobody reinstalls anything, and the app says so plainly when a change is required.

Each person picks a language

English or Español, set per person and not per phone — company handsets are handed out in English regardless of who carries them. The record reads the same either way.
